so, you really like your 'Like' buttons, a? think again
While we are socially connected via internets (Web actually), we’re using like buttons which come in different shapes and names, namely ‘Like’, ’+1’ etc. So when we see something we like we simply push the button and that is it (check Orwell via Eatliver.com). And in a way, many ways actually, this is bad. We do not think about anything thoroughly, we do not try to really understand anything, we do not debate, we do not read anything that looks like a proper box of text, we do not take our time, we do not give a fuck. We like.
We prefer short punchlines, images of different kinds, animated gifs … a picture is worth a thousand words, isn’t it? Sometimes.
The propensity of becoming short (ie. short is good) is more evident than ever. Just look at the emergence and popularity of Twitter and perhaps count notes in Tumblr - more words, less notes. Less words, more notes. We can easily draw pararells with TV (not to mention newspapers). News are getting shorter and shorter, since our attention span is getting shorter and all of this is transfering onto the Web as well (or vice versa).
And all this is bad. We are becoming short and lazy. Welcome to the dawn of the age of the stupid.
PLEASE, like this post. Pleaseeeeeeeeee!
Owgh what a disgrace, what have we become?
