ahoy, structure strikes again
Yup. It is completely obvious. We absolutely need structure in pretty much everything.
If you pay attention to so called ‘lifestyle’ media you’ll notice a lot of articles with numbers. '7 things …’, '10 ways to …’, '10 places you have to visit’ ’10 best places for wild sex’ and so on and on.
Since we’re seeing this style in rather 'serious’ newspapers and magazines… well, it must be that editors, journalists and marketing people noticed people like it. It is simple, it is structured and it makes sense. But.
What do we lose with this kind of structure?
Basically, we loose some width of thoughts. We get caught into a certain box, where we know we have to channel our thoughts in a few points. We do not leave anything open, unfinished, loose. So, for example … reader’s possible creativity is quite limited, and author is trying to make his thoughts/advices as simple as possible.
However, this kind of structure can give us a rather fine platform to think about something and perhaps get some new ideas. And that is it.
The biggest problem is that if we get to used to this kind of style and apply it everywhere it won’t be good for humanity, oh nooooo. We need open, unfinished and loose thoughts and ideas. Structure you swine!
